Interested in what we do?
Let’s have a talk, and see how together we can take your brand to the next level.
Wait, what?
Sure, they seem alike and interchangeable. But they are not the same. The World Wide Web is what you’re seeing right now. You’re most likely reading this article using a web browser, meaning you are using the Internet to access this article on the World Wide Web.
Confused?
Let me give you a brief history lesson.
Imagine your office or campus network that is connected to another office or campus on the other side of the city. That’s the Internet – a global system of interconnected computer networks.
According to rumors, the idea of connecting networks was born out of the U.S. Department of Defense’s fear of nuclear warfare during the cold war. After the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik, the world’s first artificial satellite, into space, the U.S. government felt they were losing the technology race and needed to do something to address the U.S.-Soviet “missile gap”.
That something was the creation of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), whose mission was to ensure U.S. military technology would be more sophisticated than that of the country’s enemies.
Nuclear war obviously didn’t happen, but following the cold war, the earliest predecessor to the Internet – the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) – evolved to become the Internet we know today.
If the Internet is a series of computers talking to each other, what is the World Wide Web? It’s a collection of documents that are linked to each other on the Internet. We call these documents “Hypertext Documents” (because it sounds so awesome).
I bet you are more confused now than ever.
Hypertext documents are basically just normal documents, but with links – links which when you can click on will redirect you to another document. You can write your own Hypertext document using a special language called “Hypertext Markup Language”, or HTML.
So right now you’re reading a Web page via a Web Browser on the World Wide Web (which exists in the Internet).
If you’re interested in learning how write your own HTML documents, build your own web page – you can do so while getting paid. Join our internship program.
